Paris, Texas

Paris, Texas is a small town. As the world’s second-largest Paris, a 65-foot replica of the Eiffel Tower is one of the main tourist attractions in the south. Paris, Texas is also the name of a single from Lana Del Rey’s most recent album, Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. Both the City of Paris and Del Rey’s songs represent new beginnings. Paris, Texas developed after railroads were constructed in the area. Paris, Texas tells a story of the singer having a fresh start by moving to another state.

Hilly is a thirty-eight-year-old airline pilot for a real airline based in Paris, Texas. Originally, Hilly was born and raised in Southern California. After meeting her partner in 2005, Hilly relocated to the country town. Unfortunately, Hilly and her partner didn’t work out. They dated for five years. It’s not clear what happened. Ironically, Hilly still lives in the house they bought together. When asked, Hilly tells people that the mortgage is low for the high value.

Hilly’s license plate, above, is one of the last pieces of her failed relationship that she has left. Aside from the house, the license plate is meaningful to Hilly. James, the only man Hilly ever loved, custom-designed the license plate. The initials abbreviate “Loving Years”. The four-digit number references Hilly and Jame’s favorite song, 1738. Poor, Hilly. Still holding onto a license plate.
